Background
Dr Planche qualified from St. Thomas’ Hospital in 1991. He trained in infectious diseases and microbiology and has been a consultant microbiologist for over 10 years. He was clinical lead for microbiology at St George’s Hospital and is now the clinical lead for microbiology for South West London Pathology.
Dr. Planche is also a senior lecturer at St. George’s University of London with extensive research experience. Dr Planche currently splits his time equally between clinical service and research. He also has an advisory role for a number of academic, professional and commercial organisations.
Areas of interest
Dr Planche has a long standing clinical interest in OPAT service, antibiotic resistance and resistance pseudomonas. He started research work in Ghana and Gabon conducting clinical trials and research on severe malaria. He then switched his research to focus on bacterial infections, particularly healthcare associated infections, C. difficile and sexually transmitted infections and became a senior lecturer.
