Ordering

GP surgeries can order tests and receive results electronically. If you need to set up this facility or have an issue with electronic ordering or are not receiving your results electronically you can contact out IT team.

All orders should include the details below as a minimum:

  • First name
  • Surname
  • DOB
  • Medical Record Number (MRN) or NHS number

Clinical details

Clinical details are always helpful, however some disciplines may require more clinical details than others.

You can check the SWLP Handbook to confirm the clinical details needed for each investigation.

Couriers

Our courier provider is ERS Medical. If you have any queries or have an issue that you need resolved, please contact 020 8266 6510 (between hours of 8am to 8pm).

Barcodes

Please make sure that the barcodes are clear so that they can easily be scanned at the laboratory. Please make sure when you print your barcode that  it is not faded and that all of the barcode is clearly visible.

If the barcode is not clear at may delay processing or result in the sample being rejected.

Additional tests

If you need to request additional tests please call the laboratory. Please do not add this information to the comments section on the form as this can easily be missed by laboratory staff.

Urgent samples

If your sample is urgent, please call us before the courier leaves your practice so that we can easily identify it when it arrives at the laboratory.

Storing samples

Blood samples should not be placed in the fridge before collection. For further information on how to store samples you can contact the laboratory.
