NHS Improvement are holding national workshops for hospital trust directors and pathology managers and are using South West London Pathology as an exemplar case study for pathology consolidation.
NHS Improvement is responsible for overseeing foundation trusts, NHS trusts and independent providers. They offer support these providers need to give patients consistently safe, high quality, compassionate care within local health systems that are financially sustainable.
The workshops have been organised following NHS Improvement’s request to NHS pathology providers (including SWLP) for activity data in order to investigate unwarranted variations in services. NHS Improvement’s analysis of the data showed there were significant savings opportunities for NHS trusts if they used their resources more efficiently and transitioned to network models for pathology provision.
Those attending the workshop were able to hear our story and had the opportunity to ask questions about how our service was successfully consolidated.
