Congratulations to Emma Tuddenham, Senior Clinical Scientist based at Kingston, won first prize at the Association for Clinical Biochemistry FOCUS national meeting in June. She was awarded the prize for her presentation in the clinical cases session: “A virilised diabetic – just another case of PCOS?”. The patient presented to Endocrinology at Kingston Hospital with newly diagnosed diabetes, extreme insulin resistance and recent onset virilisation with a markedly raised serum testosterone level. A diagnosis was made of Type B insulin resistance, due to the presence of blocking antibodies against the insulin receptor.
