Background
Kurt has had a long career in pathology, starting as a trainee BMS in 1988 after graduating in Marine Biology at London University. He has had various roles in Microbiology – for example he developed and published standard methods in microbiology whilst working for the Public Health Laboratory Service (now the PHE). He also worked as National Accreditation Officer for the PHLS, working with labs across the UK to advise them on how to pass their accreditation.
He was then seconded to Kings College Hospital in London to work as a trainee manager, eventually taking over the management of microbiology, virology and molecular pathology. At Darent Valley Hospital he primarily managed microbiology and had experience managing blood sciences, histology, phlebotomy and specimen reception.
