Pathology service update: processing of allergy samples

13 November 2020

Due to staffing pressures at the Immunology laboratory at St George’s Hospital, it is anticipated that allergy blood tests will be processed with an extended turnaround time of up to three weeks. This is expected to last through November and December.

Please be aware that the Immunology laboratory will retain all samples until analysis is complete, and always retains all samples for one month as part of our routine service.

A new study carried out using existing laboratory test data shows that people who had a positive PCR test for Covid-19 but a negative serology test, meaning that they did not produce detectable antibodies, still had a significant amount of protection from reinfection.
