National Healthcare Science Week

SWLP took part in Healthcare Science Week (from Friday 10 to Sunday 19 March 2017) which is a national event giving healthcare science professionals across the UK the opportunity to highlight the outstanding work they do and the impact this work has on patient care.

SWLP hosted two visits from two groups of BSc students attending Bromley College and University of Greenwich. In addition to touring all our state-of-the-art laboratories at the hub they also had the chance to visit the on-site pathology museum. Thank you to all staff who led the tours – Stuart Bednall, Samantha Matthews, Nawal Rahim, Ashwin Bunjun, Shelley Bray, Noeline Kandiah and Ruth Mills.

As part of Healthcare Science Week staff from Microbiology, Cellular Pathology and Clinical Blood Sciences showcased the work of their labs at a stall in St George’s University Medical School reception area. They talked to students and staff about their roles and helped to dispel some of the common myths about working in pathology. Thank you to Rosalind Sainsbury from Microbiology, Rebecca Olushoga from Clinical Blood Sciences and Natasha Steele from Cellular Pathology who all volunteered at the event.
