South West London Pathology (SWLP) is introducing new Beckman Coulter biochemistry analysers to it’s blood sciences laboratories across the whole SWLP network.
As part of the transition process, verification studies have been carried out to identify where tests perform differently on the new analysers. Where a difference has been identified, the data collected has been used to establish new reference ranges.
For many assays there will be either no or very small differences in results. For some assays there will be changes, and new reference ranges will apply.
These changes will be highlighted by comments on results reports.
It is important that clinicians always refer to reference ranges provided with results at the time of review.
The table below summarises the reference range changes.
Clinical biochemistry reference range changes at Croydon and St George’s hospitals (April 2025)
Clinical biochemistry reference range changes at Kingston Hospital (November 2025)
Clinical biochemistry reference range changes at Epsom and St Helier hospitals (December 2025)
It is recommended that users review any local clinical pathways involving tests with reference range changes.
