All immunology samples should now be sent in yellow top blood tubes

The South West London Pathology (SWLP) Immunology laboratory is installing new pre-analytic equipment to increase sample capacity and streamline workflows.

As a result, all Immunology samples should be collected into yellow top blood tubes (serum separator tube/SST), as indicated on sample labels. 

Once the new equipment is in use, expected to be from 16 February, blood samples received in red top blood tubes will be rejected.

New test codes for requesting immunoglobulins – Epsom and St Helier hospitals and GPs only

Immunoglobulin and serum protein electrophoresis requesting is changing on 8 July 2026. Clinicians can now request immunoglobulins only or immunoglobulins and electrophoresis. This change will enable doctors to more effectively request the tests that are clinically indicated and streamline laboratory testing, delivering improved turnaround times for these tests. This change will apply to Epsom & St Helier Hospitals and their associated GPs initially, and will then be rolled out to all service users in south west London.
