An award winning pathology service
In 2017 we won the NHS Leadership Recognition Award for Outstanding Team Achievement in the Non-Clinical Category.
In 2016 we won the Health Business Award for Hospital Procurement. We also won the EHI award for Best Use of IT to Support Healthcare Business Efficiency.
In 2016 we were finalists for a Health Service Journal Award and a Health Service Journal Value in Healthcare Award.
Providing core and specialist services
We offer a wide range of diagnostic and clinical support services to GPs across London, as well as to other NHS institutions and private organisations. Our service covers 3.5 million people across south west London via 3 hospitals, 200 GP practices and 30 healthcare centres.
We provide an extensive repertoire of tests as well as a comprehensive set of specialist tests and services. We provide an efficient service that is high in quality and value for money.
Our ‘hub’ laboratories are based at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Tooting, south west London, where the majority of pathology samples are processed.
The hub contains state-of-the-art, fully automated Blood Sciences and Microbiology laboratories, an Immunology laboratory with a specialist Protein Reference Unit and modern Cellular Pathology laboratories providing a full range of core and specialist histology and cytology services.
We have two fully automated ‘spoke’ local laboratories based at Croydon University Hospital and Kingston Hospital which handle urgent work from A&E, acute wards, theatres and maternity services.
Expert clinical advice
We have experienced consultant pathologists who provide extensive clinical and interpretative advice to those using our services. They are supported by clinical and biomedical scientists and additional support staff provide analytical, interpretive and advisory services across our network of laboratories.
Our Clinical Blood Sciences and Microbiology laboratories operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Clinical and scientific advice is already currently available 24 hours a day.
Making every test matter
We offer a huge range of tests which contribute to the diagnosis of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, cancer, allergies, blood disorders, Tuberculosis and Hepatitis. We regularly review our repertoire and introduce new diagnostic tests that allow for more specific diagnosis or provide quicker turnaround times which will speed up a patient’s diagnosis.
Fully accredited labs
All our laboratories are regularly inspected and are accredited and regulated by external agencies such as UKAS.
