Filming is underway at our hub laboratories as we team up with the Royal College of Pathologists to create new video resources for patients, students and the general public.

SWLP are finalists for two Health Service Journal awards in the Acute, Community and/or Primary Care Services Redesign and Improving Care with Technology categories.

SWLP has won an ehi award! Our entry was selected as the winner in Best Use of IT to Support Healthcare Business Efficiency for Creating an Integrated Pathology Network. The ehi Awards are the UK’s only dedicated healthcare IT award scheme.

Dr Jo Sheldon, our Clinical Lead for Immunology, is being awarded a Royal College of Pathologists medal for services to pathology, training and public engagement. Only 15 medals have ever been awarded in the past so this is an extremely prestigious – and well deserved – award! Jo will be receiving her medal in March 2017.

On Wednesday 21 September 30 magistrates from Bedfordshire were given a behind the scenes tour of the state-of-the-art hub pathology laboratories at St George’s. Congratulations to Wendy Armstrong, Senior Clinical Biochemist, who has been awarded a Darzi Fellowship in Clinical Leadership. Wendy is only the second Healthcare Scientist to have been accepted on the Fellowship Programme since its launch in 2009.

Senior executives from Roche visited the hub site and were given a tour of our state-of-the-art chemistry and the new molecular laboratory in microbiology. The laboratory tours were led by Sean Lynch, Discipline Manager for Clinical Blood Sciences and Alan Spratt, Chief Biomedical Scientist for Virology.
